Reflection on Chingay 2009

Looking back at all those post i wrote on Chingay, i just realised that i never wrote how i felt being in all those training and being as a participants.

I didn't ever think of being a Chingay Participant when i got hold of the recruiting news. Because i'm worried i can commit myself to the training schedule But due to friends influence i joined.

This decision lead me to lots of obstacles, but i'm glad to say, i overcomed every single problem.

One week after i joined Paym Chingay Team, my teacher approached me and asked me to quit because i got to handle another project as a team Leader. However this did not stop me and i've never regreted this decision.

First day of training was a harsh one, we perspired like no people's business and ached like we just gone through fitness test. I was worried that i can't cope with the dance steps, cause i've not dance before and this was an exposure to me. Thanks to my friends, they gave me moral support and guided me through and i manage to learn the steps on that particular day. Just like the chreographer had said: 'Don't think of what you are going to dance next and focus on what you are going to dance'.

And with my 'willing-to-learn' attitude and fast learner, i was appointed together with my friend Veron and i to be the Sub IC of the Ants Group. And we have to make sure that all the ants actually know their dance steps well, and to guide them till they are familiar with it.

Just weeks after all the training we had, i received a mail from the stomp team. The mail came infroming me that i've been chosen to be one of the Chingay Blogger, i was so exuberant about it. It's yet another experience and exposure for me.

However, i didn't know which to chose from thinking that being a chingay blogger i've to give up being a chingay participant, being a chingay participant i've to give up being a chingay blogger. This situation vexed me for a total that pass 1 week after i received the news. And finally i wanted to give up on being a chingay blogger, valerie called me asking me will i be at the press conference? i told her, actually i'm a chingay participant myself is it still possible that i be a chingay blogger? She said why not? i can write in the participant perspective. I was so happy, because i got to be a chingay blogger and a chingay participant.

Being an Ant was not a difficult task because the dance steps we learned is easy than anyone else, but the costume we are wearing is hotter than anyone else. It's very stuffy with the costume on, it's like playing hide-and-seek in the wardrobe.

Every saturday is a training day for us, and i always look forward to it. It's because i'm able to learn more dance move, i'm also able to interact with my new friends there. It's like a small gathering for us. Later on, saturday were not enough for us, so wednesday night become one of the training night for us. Let me tell you, training at night is really different from saturday training because the wind is damn cold and enjoyable, compare to the sun i prefer the night.

This trainings just let us have a better preparationg for Chingay 2009.

It's not a one month thing, the training last for a few months and we are proud to say we did a good job in the Training.

Chingay 2009 just came nearer and nearer to us. And i was a little worried about it, because our costume were so fragile, especially Ants. However we solved the problem with the dark tapes.

Let me just say, Chingay 2009 is a tiring event but it's worthwhile.

Imagine yourself walking from the court to marina Square, you will felt tire after the walking. But we ran and walked and danced and pespired. And i don't felt tired at all. It's the cheers the claps from the audience bring me forward and i felt a sense of achievement that i'm able to be part of Chingay.

You will ask me, if i'm given another chance will i join Chingay again? My answer is Yes! I will join Chingay again, because i learned alot from all the trainings and practices and i have grown throughout this long journey.
